Double digits!

Rex's birthday finally arrived after much anticipation and excitement about turning 10! He loved his new bike and so decided to celebrate with a ride over the Tasman Bridge and sushi for dinner (there has to be sacrifices on the road and sushi has been one of them). The ride over the bridge was a little hairier than we expected, the bike path was very narrow and the bridge is very high! We were also very hopeful that a large ship didn't approach. We had a great play in the park and rode around Hobart before our long trek and scarier ride home (the wind had picked up a bit).

So good to have visitors!

At the beginning of March, Mum and Dad came down for a visit. We were pretty excited to see them and really appreciated them making the trip, it had been seven months since a Granny cuddle! We had a very busy four days, driving up to Derwent Bridge to see The Wall as well as Campbell Town to see Mum's sister Anne and Ange and Hannah (my cousin and her daughter). Tim and Dad also managed to squeeze in a tour to the Cascade Factory. It was wonderful to spend some time with them, but four days just didn't seem enough in the end!

Just part of the gang

While at Seven Mile Beach a bunch of guys arrived on bikes one afternoon and it didn't take long before they felt like old friends. They were a lovely group doing a big charity ride, raising money for prostate cancer. The kids were in the cabin watching TV and sitting on the bikes, almost faster than Tim was having a beer with them.

Mount Wellington

With the imposing Mount Wellington looking down at us while we tripped around Hobart, we couldn't leave with going up and having a look. As usual with most things in Tassie, we were very impressed. It was a gorgeous day we could see for miles and the kids especially enjoyed climbing around on the rocks.

Melaleuca

We were sitting around on Sunday morning when Tim got a call from work, there was a plane stuck down in Melaleuca with a flat tyre and they wanted him to fly down to fix it. Fortunately for us there was room on the plane for all of us! Melaleuca is in the far south west of Tassie and the only way in is by plane, boat or a nine day walk. It is extremely remote and we were very grateful to get opportunity to go down there. Rex was pretty keen to spot a Tassie Tiger as word has it if there are any still around, this is where they would be. We didn't find any Tassie Tigers, but had a run in with a big Tiger Snake... thank god for the boardwalk! The weather was beautiful and the flights there and back were awesome and to be able to visit somewhere so remote and untouched was just breathtaking.

Around Hobart

So we have settled in Seven Mile Beach, twenty kilometres from Hobart, for eight weeks while we both do some work. This gives us an opportunity to really see Hobart and its surrounds. We have done day trips to Richmond, the Museum and the Botanical Gardens so far. Richmond is just gorgeous boasting Australia's oldest bridge and the kids loved the Museum and Gardens.

Bruny Island

We dragged ourselves from the beauty of Cockle Creek so we could squeeze in Bruny Island before Tim started work in Hobart. The island is beautiful with gorgeous beaches and lots of wildlife. We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins jumping somersaults as well as a seal, a copperhead snake and many possums. The possums didn't deter Tim and the kids trying locally made possum & wallaby salami, the local wine and cheese were more to my taste though.
