The Barossa and Adelaide

We found a fantastic free camp in the state forest just near Williamstown. We managed to eat our way around the Barossa including an awesome farmers market and a visit to Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop for morning tea, yum! We also did a day trip to Adelaide where we had a look around town and went out to Glenelg.

Victor Harbour

After Robe we crossed The Coorong and headed for Victor Harbour. We felt like we were on holidays, the weather was perfect and the town really cute. We biked everywhere, loved the ice cream and were very impressed with the huge breakwall off the island.

Robe

We found a great $6 a night campsite, right on the beach just north of Robe. The weather was beautiful as well as the coastline!

Mount Gambier

Mt Gambier’s Blue Lake wasn’t as blue as it can be, but was still a pretty blue. We had a good look around at the gardens, parks and the sink hole in town.

Portland

Our first days in Portland were very wet and cold. We tried to take a walk along the beach while there was a break in the weather, but got caught out and ended up very wet. The sun soon came out and we went out to see a petrified forest on top of a cliff above huge waves. We then went on to the lighthouse where we saw heaps of boats. We were told that the tuna were on the bite and we should go down to the wharf in town. There were lots of big boats, big rods and big fish!  We sat and watched the seal mum and her two pups and two huge sting rays eat the scraps of the fish from the cleaning station.

Great Ocean Road

Tim and I have driven the Great Ocean Road before so we decided to make our way straight to Portland with a quick stop at the Twelve Apostles (well seven). It was a very cold, wet windy day but the coastline was still very impressive. Some of the waves were huge so it was easy to see why there are only seven apostles left.

Barwon Heads

After Forest we headed back to Barwon Heads to spend some time at my cousin Anna's beautiful place. It was a really cold and wet couple of days so to be able to spend a few days inside by a warm fire place was just heaven. Anna came down on the weekend and we were able to spend some quality time catching up while our kids ran amuck, was just great. Thanks so much for having us Anna!
