Hyden & Wave Rock

We decided to head to Wave Rock before going south to Esperance so we wouldn't have to double back. We drove the Granite and Woodlands Way from Norseman which was beautiful and we stopped at a large rock formation along the way. Wave Rock was pretty impressive and Hyden was a cute little town with lots of sculptures. More cool trains, Tim was really keen to try and jump one!

The Nullarbor

We hit the Nullarbor very excited and had a few places in mind to visit. The Bunda Cliffs were amazing, we even spotted a few whales and our first nights camp was at an abandoned homestead 14kms off the highway. It was pretty cool with old wrecks from the old Eyre Highway littered every where. We all really enjoyed exploring the old homestead as well as the nearby cave and blow hole. We loved it so much we stayed two nights.

We ran into a big army unit at the Balladonia Roadhouse with their new supercats, we wondered if war had broken out while we were bush. 

Our next night was a bush camp in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by caves. The stars were so clear out there, just beautiful. That left us with one last day of driving to unremarkable Norseman. 

Ceduna

A quick one nights stop in Ceduna, they love a jetty round here! Next stop the Nullarbor!!!

Streaky Bay

Wow what a cool place! We fished for squid again (but only beautiful sunsets this time), we went and found the seal colony (which was awesome) and we found Murphy's Haystacks (rocks not haystacks). The kids found out how to find and catch razor fish in the sand at low tide and came back with a bucket full of them. They are like a huge mussels and are edible as well as being good bait for whiting. Tim and Rex didn't like them and neither did the whiting unfortunately.

Coffin Bay

This part of SA is so beautiful and we spent four days exploring it. We were told about a pig farm worth calling in at so off we went... it was hilarious with free range pigs everywhere! How one didn't end up in the car with Lola we don't know. The national park was beautiful and we had a great adventure on the 4x4 tracks... lots of sand, water and rocks! We were also keen to catch a local squid off the jetty, but alas there must be a trick we don't know about because all we got was bored kids.

Port Lincoln

We stayed in the Lincoln National Park outside of Port Lincoln. We had a beautiful spot right on the water and spent a very lazy four days exploring the park including the huge sand dunes. 

The day we arrived Lola came running out of the toilet saying she saw a snake so we all went to see if it was still there. We couldn't see it and were a little sceptical when Lola screamed again. I stepped back and nearly stepped on the black tiger snake! A little spooked we went back to camp and continued setting up, Lola was very wary so decided to stay near by and do some colouring in. I looked up and saw another tiger snake just coasting past her about a metre away. The poor thing got a bigger fright and we all spent our time stomping around camp! As we were packing up, Tim and I spotted the tiger snake coming back to claim its home again, now that we were leaving.

Port Augusta

We did a quick two night stop in Port Augusta and were blessed with beautiful weather. Tim and the kids went for a kayak and spotted dolphins. It was a busy little town and the train line across the water was amazing... such long, colourful trains with the Flinders Ranges as a backdrop.
